Although we returned from New Jersey mid-Sunday afternoon, my vacation didn't officially end, at least in my mind, until today as last night I saw an amazing performance by one of my favorite music artists of all time, Mr. Tom Petty.
Now I have not seen that many artists live in my day, although all the ones I have seen generally are artists really high on my list. It made me think back to all the other concerts I had seen.
In no particular order: Elton John, Billy Joel, Switchfoot, The Fray, Five for Fighting, Bob Seger, and George Thorogood and now Tom Petty is added to that list.
Don't ask me to rank these concerts as they are all so enjoyable, I could not possibly put a number with them although I would give Elton, Billy and Mr. Petty the top 3 spots on that list most likely. I'm not sure if I can accurately rank the shows from Five for Fighting and George Thorogood as I was much younger when I saw them and didn't full appreciate their music at the time.
I honestly cannot remember the point of this whole post, but I will just keep typing and see if it comes to me.
I guess my point was to comment on how spectacular the whole show was. The members of the band are not as old as they used to be, but it didn't stop them from rocking out the joint. From the first song they played right up until the last encore, the entire audience was singing and dancing. There wasn't much talk from the band as they just shut up and played.
A friend of mine expressed concern that the band may talk and act too political. There was none of that. There were barely any words spoken from the band except a brief excerpt about a song here or there, but most of the time they were performing their well known hits. I think its safe to say that this show, out of all the concerts I have been to, had the most audience involvement or at least the singing along aspect of involvement.
In honor of Tom Petty, I updated my musical playlist on the right to make it some of my favorite Tom Petty hits. Enjoy!
Overall it was a great show (5/5). Before he left, Tom Petty said, "we should get together again sometime". I really hope I get an opportunity to follow his words and see him again....
